Welcome!

I've always thought Singing Time was a magical time. The best part of Primary. Since being called as Primary Chorister, I've tried to make Singing Time a way to make church and learning a joyful, fun time for children. These are my adventures as Primary Chorister.

Thank you everyone

Thank you all for your kind comments and support. Unfortunately, I was released a while ago from being a Primary Chorister. It was the best calling I have ever had, and probably will ever have. I won't be updating this blog any more, but feel free to browse and keep leaving comments that others will read and learn from.

Good luck,
Elise

Sunday Moment

Just a quick note, I want to try and keep up with this blog a bit better. I know I don't update as often as many of you would wish, but life, as you know, gets in the way of perfect blogging. In the future, I will try to post something every week, even if it's nothing major.

For this week, I would like to share today's "Primary Moment". Please enjoy.

The Bishop came to visit Primary and talk to them. Bishop: "What do you need to do to get to heaven?" Varying kids answered anything from 'get baptized' to 'go to church'... the usual answers. One child, however, in a nice loud voice said, "You need to die!" The pianist and I burst out into muffled snickers over in our corner of the room. It was a perfectly true statement, which made it all the funnier.

If you don't find this as hilarious as I did, it's ok. It may have just been a 'had to have been there' moment. :)

Mother Tell Me the Story - 204

We did this one for Mother's Day. First of all, I have to tell you that they gave us chocolates from Rocky Mountain House Chocolate Factory instead of flowers! Oh Happy Day! I mean, flowers are nice and all, but you can't eat them. Ok, back to business.

I taught the first verse to the Junior Primary, and the second verse to the Senior Primary, and then we sang them together in Sacrament meeting. They hadn't sung it together before (our primary is split the entire time), so that was a little exciting. It all worked out though.

We played Headbandz to learn the song. I introduced each part of the verse with my flip chart cards. Then we sung the verse a couple of times. Then I kicked out one kid and had another come up and choose the word/phrase that we would NOT sing. So the kid in the hallway comes back in, they stick the card into their hat, and they have guess which word/phrase it is by us NOT singing it.

Well, I forgot to bring the headband/had. New plan. So I just stuck everything on the board with tape and held up the chosen word/phrase card behind the head of the child who had to guess. To simplify, instead of putting it in a hat and having the guessing child wear it, I just held it up behind their head so that he/she couldn't see it, but the rest of the children could. Make sure you give the kids lots of hints as to what word/phrase NOT to sing. For example, I slap my hand across my mouth. Otherwise they forget what word it is they're not singing, even when I'm up there holding the word. LOL

Here's what my cards look like. Please note that my printer is awaiting a new cartridge, so I have not been coloring anything. Oh well. Please also note that these are just for the FIRST VERSE. The second verse was learned by the big kids, so they got words only.

On A Golden Springtime - 88

I'm doing versus 1 and 3 to this song. Here's what my flip charts look like:

Please note that they are not in color. My printer needs a new cartridge, so I didn't bother coloring them since I couldn't print them in color. Feel free to color them by hand or by computer if you like. You can also add words. I used these flip charts with Uno Singing.
